With a beauty mantra of "less, but better," Parisian style star Mirjam Flatau (aka Mija) is the picture of impeccably fresh, unfettered ease. The German-born creative director—whose one million-and-counting followers cleave to her indisputably chic take on monochromatic minimalism—is most often spotted in a slouchy black blazer or structured white puffer over tailored trousers and crisp ivory slides. And then there's the effortless honey blonde hair—slicked back into a cool bun or tucked into a high collar—that plays frame to her luminous skin.
"I like a dewy makeup, very natural, and just a little pop of color to keep it fresh," says Flatau, who has just met up with Gucci for a spin through La Samaritaine's light-drenched beauty floor. The iconic French department store recently underwent a spectacular renovation, opening its 250-year-old doors to reveal enormous glass ceilings and Art Nouveau flourishes, merged with a new kind of shopping experience.
Together, Gucci and Mija head over to the Westman Atelier makeup space for a crash course in Flatau's signature polish: Think supernaturally radiant skin, black mascara, and a warm peachy flush on the apples, accented with a few glassy cheekbone highlights. On this particular afternoon, Flatau is feeling adventurous and says yes to a bold red lipstick— patting it down to soft tomato stain. On lids, she goes for an eye-brightening shade of glimmering peach (in Bisou) that's 'no makeup makeup" turned up a notch. "Ready to go out!" she laughs—et viola, she's ready for her French exit.
