As the fashion industry prepared to honor the new "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakened Fashion" exhibition at the 2024 Met Gala, one red carpet heavyweight was poised to nail the theme: Nicole Kidman. After seeing a Richard Avedon photograph featuring a 1950s couture evening dress by Cristóbal Balenciaga, the star worked closely with the French fashion house to bring a striking black-and-white recreation to life.
For beauty inspiration, Gucci, too, drew from the idea of reinterpretting iconic looks. "With Nicole, I wanted to channel a modern Grace Kelly to complement her 'reawakened' archival dress," she said after Oscar-winning actress ascended the Met's stairs. After setting Kidman's complexion with the Vital System, Gucci went for a heightened rosy cheek using Liquid Super Loaded in Peau de Rosé over Poppet blush for an otherworldy pink flush. Eye Want You Pencil in Khôl Noir defined the actress's blue eyes and a perfect nude lip finished the look. "Her makeup is easy, effortless, and glowing, with fresh gorgeous skin and an enhanced eye."
